A framework of reference for pluralistic approaches

Teaching and learning materials

This database aims to facilitate teachers access to educational materials relevant to pluralistic approaches to languages and cultures. This way they will be able to help learners appropriate their knowledge, attitudes, and skills as described in the lists of descriptors. The materials, available to download, can be selected according to various criteria: objectives (as expressed by the FREPA descriptors), levels of training, thematic areas, the type of pluralistic approach, and the language of instruction.

Description

This is an activity developed during a course of plurilingualism at the university Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Germany. It deals with the translation of a Spanish text on the subject of a first-run film using all previous knowledge and skills, all languages learned in the school context or presented in the class/group.
In a first step, pupils/learners are asked to outline in a list the main points /ideas referring to the present text and the photo. After this pre-reading activity, they are requested to read the text carefully and to translate sentence after sentence in a language they already know or learn and to write down all their observations referring to the lexis and the proceeding. Finally, they shall present and compare in class their results, reflections, methods, strategies etc. Material: photocopies.
